I love reading books with deeply flawed characters, that despite their best efforts, never seem to do the right thing. The antihero. I read a lot of unhealthy relationships, damaged characters, and not-so-happy endings. I am very much a hurt/comfort junkie. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t give in to my hopeless romantic side and feed it full of fluff until I want to puke rainbows to get my happily ever afters though. It honestly depends on my mood. Paranormal and esoteric matters fascinate me, so I love romances about vampires, ghosts, shifters or angels, and the like too. I love to see an author turn a well-known theme/trope completely on its head but somehow it still works. That’s why I read. Anything sensual, or with a strong emotional undercurrent is bound to get my attention.
I read probably 90% m/m romance, 10% Contemporary, YA, & Paranormal romance. And as I’ve already stated above, I’d say about half of them have a hurt/comfort slant. I have a TBR list that I will never conquer. Last I looked there were some 600+ books on there. I don’t even live under the assumption that I can make a dent in it anymore. I’m one hundred percent a mood reader. I tend to read in binges, angst, fluff, bdsm, whatever strikes me at the time. I can typically read, on average, a book a day. However, I have a demanding job in medicine so time is not always my friend. It doesn’t care that I’d rather be reading. So, it’s safe to say my reviews may sometimes be sporadic, at best. It just depends on my schedule. Try not to hold it against me. Some days I’m just too exhausted to care. That said, if I’m accepting submissions, I typically have the time to provide reviews – whether they are requested or because I simply enjoy sharing my love of books.
FTC Disclosure: I’ve paid for all the books I review. There are some occasions where friends have loaned their copies to read, but I am not a paid reviewer and I receive no compensation of any kind as a result of my reviews. If at any time I receive copies from publishers in exchange for review, I will include that information in the review itself. Unless stated otherwise, assume that I have purchased all books reviewed.
These are solely my opinions and/or reactions. I am pretty honest in my reviews, but I am also a very forgiving reader most of the time. If you can pull me in with your storytelling, I can overlook a lot. If I actually mention things like grammar and editing? It’s usually pretty significant, know that. If I don’t like the book, I will tell you. I don’t always write full reviews unless you formally request one. If you get a full review, it’s because I flat out loved the book and I want everyone else to go read it.
If you formally request a review, I will provide one with the caveat that it will be honest. That said, I will provide examples and/or some sort of constructive feedback in the critique as to why I did not like it if that was indeed the case. Sometimes it’s just a matter of preferences. Not everyone has the same tastes. *shrugs*
