Movie star 101: A smile hides all pain.
Quellcrist King has been playing a part his entire life. The more famous he becomes, the more he hides. The only person he ever let see the real him rose with him from nothing to the very top.
They were the king and queen of Hollywood— and then she wanted a divorce. The only way to survive his depression is to bury himself in work. If he can be a character, maybe he won’t have to remember himself. A gay role can’t be any different than playing a straight one, can it?
But instead of finding solace in the character, he finds it in his costar. Hale becomes his best friend, his lifeline, the light in his darkness. Quell is forced to examine everything he thought he knew about himself while filming intimate scenes with Hale that feel more real than anything ever has before.
He’s lived his entire life following the script. What would life be like unscripted?
Review: 3.5 stars.
I really enjoyed this one….Until the last 25-ish%. The UST in this one was delicious and frustrating all at once, as it should be. And then when we get to the part that we’ve been waiting for almost the entire book where they finally give in? It was kinda, meh. I was really expecting an explosion after that much build up…

What I liked:
Mel & Ella, their friends/coworkers. They made me laugh and truly cared for both Hale & Q
Hale ♥ Quell – I really enjoyed the way their friendship built throughout the book. They had good chemistry. Some of my favorite scenes were just the two of them cuddling. Which was fairly often b/c it helped with the depression Quell struggled with.. at least, that’s what he tells himself. Some hurt/comforty goodness here guys. =D

What I didn’t like:
Rachael – I didn’t like her characterization at all. I think the same result could’ve been achieved without making her an elitist, entitled, insensitive bitch who probably did far more damage to Quell’s psyche than questioning his sexuality and the depression ever could. Seriously, every time she appeared I wanted to punch her. And I am not a violent person!

The last 25ish%

So, I’m not sure what happened here, but something was different after the premiere. Not bad…just, different. It didn’t seem like the same couple sometimes. Idk.
Regardless, I actually did enjoy the book. I plan to read the second one. ♥
